This blog is for teachers who are participating in a Writer's Workshop Institute through ESC Region 12. We will come together 5 times throughout the school year and when we are not together this BLOG will help us with our collaboration as teachers as well as our growth as writers!

Ok. I need help. I really enjoyed the Writer's Workshop meeting. I'm really excited about it and want to start using it ASAP. Only problem...... I haven't the foggiest idea where to begin. Help anyone????? I only teach 4th grade spelling, writing, and grammar, but am not sure how to incorporate the workshop into all of this. Any ideas????

Let's talk at our next meeting! I think it is a blessing that you ONLY teach those subjects. With spelling, and grammar- the BEST way to teach it is integrated with writing! :) You will be at the session in November right? We can chat.. but first thing to put into place is the format. DAILY opportunity for kids to write on topics of their own choosing. You will guide your grammar/spelling lessons and what is really takes to know how to write lessons as mini-lessons and you will conference with kids individually. The next session on Mini-Lessons will hoepfully give you just the push you need! :) There is time for grade level talk/sharing as well.
ReplyDeleteFrom 4th grade teacher to 4th grade teacher. . . I have started writer's workshop after my ELA lesson so that they have a new idea about sentence structure, parts of a story, etc. . . fresh in their mind then when they write it may have a better chance of showing up. So far a few students are actually doing it this way, so its exciting and it is easy to check their comprehension of the lesson that way, too.
