This blog is for teachers who are participating in a Writer's Workshop Institute through ESC Region 12. We will come together 5 times throughout the school year and when we are not together this BLOG will help us with our collaboration as teachers as well as our growth as writers!

A Beginning
What a day! I am loving this workshop and can hardly wait to inspire some third graders to become writers. I know I have to throw in math and science and reading as well. I will get it done. Just enjoying being fired up and ready to share.
Well, we did it. Got out the "new" notebooks. Talked about what they were for and how we were going to use them. Decorated the first page. Then while they were ready I said fine get a sheet of paper and write for a few minutes. No talking just pencil whispers. I even wrote. Got a few what do I do then saw my writing on the overhead and down went the head. When I called time most of them groaned....not enough time. Good we can add more later when you have some. We are ready to start generating our own ideas. Didn't take much to get this group fired up. They all wrote for most of the time once they got over the what do I do with this pencil. We had talked about how we were anxious to use our notebooks and what they were and weren't. Set up ground rules for writing time. I am very proud they caught on very quickly to spell it like it sounds. We can fix it later. Just write. They loved it! Now we wait for Monday and our next adventure with paper and pencil.
Isn't that the truth... Writing IS going to become your most favorite time of the day! Go get 'em girl!
