Okay, I think I am missing a link. When do we revise and publish? I feel a mini lesson in here somewhere and not sure how to move forward. I have been "saving" our stories in a folder. Open House is coming up and I would love to have a good quality paper or am I rushing it?
We are stumped in third grade. Loving the writing time and being very productive. Just need to keep that ball rolling and keeping them excited about writing and reading.
What do you use for a grade? rubrics?
Monica had the grading question at our last institute and I answered her on email with this:
ReplyDeleteMonica,
Hope you enjoyed your day yesterday… I’m sorry that I did not get to your question about grading. We will talk more about that next session. I do want to tell that you can keep going with grammar lessons the way that you have been. Eventually, you will teach those grammar worksheets as a MINI lesson. Showing kids how to apply a skill/usage in the context of writing. There can be a list of these lessons/rules in the classroom. As far as grading is concerned, (after I have taught 3 or 4) I would tell kids that I will be taking a grade at the end of the week on a piece of their writing (that they would select for me) and I will be looking for x, y, and z. I think students should be told what the criteria IS and be given a chance to apply it to the best of their ability. Think of grammar/ spelling/conventions, and think of ways that you can teach it by modeling your own writing or showing kids how to edit/revise for grammar in their writing. That is the ultimate goal of grammar and spelling anyway right?
Is this clear as mud?
