This blog is for teachers who are participating in a Writer's Workshop Institute through ESC Region 12. We will come together 5 times throughout the school year and when we are not together this BLOG will help us with our collaboration as teachers as well as our growth as writers!

Assessment
I did my baseline assessment and wanted to know what the next step was. The students are super excited about writer's workshop, but I need to know what I do after the assessment. Thanks for your comments and help.
I introduced my Writer's Notebook to my class after I did my assessment. Next I will have my students decorate their own Writer's Notebook and fill it with their "special things". Then I will begin modeling, making lists of what to do during writer's workshop, telling oral stories, etc.
We had already done all about me bags and apples peaches pumpkin pie during the first few weeks.
Exactly right Frizz! :) What did your baseline assessments tell you? Where should you start? I agree with some oral storytelling and some "where to ideas come from" lessons. Remember- you have to knock out the "I don't have anything to write about" and the "I can't do it" before you can begin a true Writer's Workshop format! Keep going... don't let the unknown stop you. A move forward is a move in the right direction! I promise! Melissa
